01 — THE TRIP

Beyond Tokyo: hidden temples, mountains, onsen, and a culture to be savored slowly.

Japan is a country of contrasts, and this trip runs through all of them: from the izakaya alleys and temples of Tokyo to Mount Fuji and the hot springs of Hakone, from the bullet train to the shrines and geisha and samurai culture of Kyoto, and on to the street food of Osaka.

03 — ROUTE

Route

Itinerary day by day

  1. Day 1

Arrival in Tokyo · Welcome at the hotel in Tokyo

Tokyo welcomes us through its oldest side. Asakusa keeps the rhythm of old Edo, and on Hoppy Dori we discover that Japanese social life happens around a small counter, with grill smoke and conversation.

  2. Day 2

Tokyo: market, cooking and alleys · We have seafood and tamagoyaki for breakfast at the Tsukiji outer…

The city is understood by eating. The Tsukiji market, the temples of Sensō-ji and Yanaka and the cooking class reveal a Tokyo devoted to detail; from the Skytree, the city's scale becomes clear.

  3. Day 3

Tokyo: contrasts · Meiji Shrine in the morning

From the stillness of Meiji Shrine to the Shibuya crossing there are only minutes and centuries of distance. It's the day that best explains Tokyo: tradition and rush sharing the same street.

  4. Day 4

Tokyo → Hakone: hot springs and Mount Fuji · We travel by train to Hakone

We leave the city for the mountains of Hakone, land of hot springs. If the sky is clear, Mount Fuji rises above Owakudani and Lake Ashi, and the floating torii marks the entrance to a slower Japan.

  5. Day 5

Hakone → Kyoto by bullet train · We take the Shinkansen from Odawara to Kyoto…

The Shinkansen is an experience in itself: punctual, quiet and with Fuji passing by the window. In Kyoto, the Arashiyama bamboo awaits us and, at night, the lanterns of Pontocho.

  6. Day 6

Kyoto: shrines and geisha culture · We visit Fushimi Inari at dawn, before the crowds

Kyoto was the imperial capital for over a thousand years. The torii of Fushimi Inari at dawn, the golden temples and geisha and samurai culture bring us close to the city that keeps Japan's memory.

  7. Day 7

Day trip to Osaka · We travel by train to Osaka

Osaka is Japan at its loudest and tastiest, the city proud of eating until you drop. Between the castle, the aquarium and the stalls of Dōtonbori, we understand why the Japanese call it the nation's kitchen.

  8. Day 8

Kyoto → Tokyo: sumo · We return to Tokyo by Shinkansen, with one last view of Mount Fuji

We return to Tokyo with one last look at Fuji. Sumo, an ancient ritual turned sport, closes the trip before a farewell in the bars of Shinjuku.

  9. Day 9

End of the trip · Breakfast and hotel check-out

Last breakfast and end of the trip, with Japan told from one city to the next.

Flavours of Japan

Bowl of tonkotsu ramen served at a Japanese counter

Tonkotsu ramen

Pork broth simmered for hours until rich, eaten standing at a counter at midnight.

Freshly cooked okonomiyaki on a griddle in Osaka

Okonomiyaki

The “pancake of whatever is at hand,” Osaka cooking born from post-war scarcity.

Sake being poured into ceramic cups at a Japanese counter

Sake

Fermented rice poured between strangers as a gesture of trust, never drunk alone.

In Japan, food is not explained; it is served. A bowl of ramen eaten standing up, in silence, says more about the country than any temple: precision, patience, respect for detail. This is not a food tour; it is sitting where a local sits and letting the ritual speak for itself.
