Northern Norway holds three things rarely found together: deep fjords, a living indigenous culture and one of the planet's best belts for northern lights.
Lofoten
Peaks rising straight from the sea, white-sand beaches at Arctic temperatures and fishing villages of red cabins on stilts. The most photographed landscape in the country still surprises in person.
Tromsø and the auroras
The city sits inside the auroral oval. From October to March, step away from the streetlights with a clear sky and the odds are high.
Sámi culture
The Sámi keep reindeer herding, their language and joik, their traditional song. Visiting respectfully — and paying fairly — is part of how we travel.
Arctic summer
From May to July the sun never sets. Midnight hikes, kayaking between fjords and whales offshore transform the destination.
How we travel it
In a small group, with slack in the itinerary to chase clear skies and stop when the fjord asks for it.
