Planes are the fastest way to go far and one of tourism's main CO₂ sources. A single flight can produce hundreds of kilos or even tonnes of CO₂ per passenger depending on distance and aircraft.
Where the emissions concentrate
Take-off and climb burn a huge share of total fuel. That is why two layovers pollute far more than one direct flight of the same distance, and why short hops are the worst per kilometre.
How to genuinely reduce it
- Fly direct whenever it exists.
- Choose airlines with modern fleets and high load factors.
- Economy class: business multiplies your footprint by the space it takes.
- Pack light: less weight, less fuel.
- Fewer, longer trips instead of many short escapes.
Offsetting
Use verified programmes (Gold Standard, VCS) and offset per actual leg, not by a rounded guess. It does not replace reduction, but it funds projects that do capture carbon.
On the ground we handle the other half: shared transport, local lodging and no single-use plastics during the itinerary.
