The world's ninth highest mountain and one of the most imposing faces on earth.

4 min read

Nanga Parbat rises 8,126 metres, and its Rupal face climbs 4,600 metres from the valley: the highest wall on the planet. Seeing it head-on after days of walking is hard to describe without overstating it.

The route

The classic trek reaches the Fairy Meadows and climbs to base camp through pine forest, moraine and high pasture, the mountain always in view.

Demand

Not technical, but demanding: five to seven-hour days, sustained altitude between 3,000 and 4,000 metres and considerable elevation gain. Good fitness and prior training are required.

Karakoram and people

Northern Pakistan is among the most spectacular and hospitable mountain regions in the world. The Hunza and Skardu valleys complete the trip with culture, tea and genuine hospitality.

When to go

June to September, when passes are open and mountain weather is most stable.

Mandatory insurance

This trip requires a policy covering high-altitude trekking and helicopter rescue. Not an add-on: a condition of joining.
